Recently I was invited for a blogger event that was organized SCSL in collaboration with Tunetalk to launch a new budget smartphone for Malaysian youth segment, from students to entry level professionals that are between the age of 21 to 30 and are eligible for the new phone rebate that was passed by the government.
Interested? Read on to find out!
The event was held on the 13th of June 2013 in the Royal Chulan Hotel that is nearby Pavilion. Thank goodness Waze was invented or I would have been either lost or stuck in a jam
(KL Roads *Le Sigh*)
Reached there at 3.30 and was waiting for the event to start at 4pm but there was slight delay.
Luckily there were food and drinks served to satiate my stomach (goodness know how big of a black hole my stomach is)
The event started with a speech by the Country Head of SCSL International, Desmond and was followed by the Vice Chairman of Si2i Ltd Group from India, Dilip.
Followed by Jason Lo, the CEO of Tunetalk.
It was then launched by Y.Bhg. Datuk Ir. Dr. Mohamed Al Amin Abdul Majid ( A reallyyyy long name), the chairman of SME Corporation Malaysia.
One of the quotes from him was “The Internet is a right for everyone, everyone should have access to the Internet” I agree wholeheartedly (Although some people should really be banned from it)
It was then followed up by a performance from a number of very sexy looking gals that ended with some local celebrities presenting the phone.
The smartphone is a Switch STAR NEO Mi363 that has dual sim capability, 3G, WiFi, the usual except LTE support and NFC. It has a 2MP camera on the back and it runs on the Android Gingerbread 2.3 version. The phone will feature a 3.5” HVGA touch screen and will be available in black that will be followed by white shortly.
The focus here is “Simplicity”.
IMO I like a more sophisticated smartphone, but that’s just my personal preference. But from what I know, they will be bringing more ranges of smartphone into Malaysia.
The phone is being offered for *FREE*, yes readers, *FREE* as part of the Pakej Komunikasi Belia Scheme offered to 1.5millions Malaysian Youths.
The phone itself is priced at RM349 which after the government scheme of RM200 is Rm149 plus an additional discount of RM150 that makes it *FREE*
The phone will be available at more than 300 retail outlets in Malaysia, including Tesco, Aeon and S Alliance outlets. Sadly no online buying though.
Additionally, Tune Talk is giving away 300mb of data, 30 Local sms and 30 minutes of local calls within the first month of activation and a further 200mb for subscribers that stay loyal up to the 6th month.

So happy that I get to meet some blogger kakis!
This post is a paid post for the bloggers that attended the event. One of them which was me.
That’s all for today
